The Amazon ad copy is wrong, this item is one pack rod, and not a rod and reel combo as stated in the advertisement. It should be obvious that this is another case of Amazon not maintaining it's site. The Shakespeare Travel Mate rod is maybe the best cheap pack rod. It goes together tight, it is straight and true with decent action, has a graphite reel seat that does not scratch a reel, and has no real faults. Takes longer to set up than the Shakespeare Ugly-Stik pack rod, but has a nice looking curve when bent. The Ugly-Stik pack rod is a mess of angles and straight sections when bent. It seems a little too light for big fish and hard use, but is the ideal small cheap pack rod to have with you in the truck or on a hike.

The description was for a rod and reel and ended up just receiving the rod. I contacted Boating Savings the company that shipped the item to me and they told me Amazon had made a mistake in the description. I was informed that I could return the product but I decided to keep the rod and purchase some reels to complete the set. I am dissapointed that the description has not changed yet and hope more people don't make the same mistake I did.

this is the ideal pole for someone who travels. The only drawback might be that it might loosens up on a cast. I found the solution in using some electrical tape. The pole is responsive and stiff enough to feel a nibble.

Shakespeare Medium Action Travel Mate Combo (6-Feet 6-Inch)
I used this rod on a recent trip to Belize where it was used to catch several species of fish. Used with 10# braided line it performed great. It casts light lures very well and has the sensitivity and 'backbone' to handle practically any reef fish.
The ability to pack it in a small travel bag and eliminate the need to worry about it as hand luggage makes it the ideal travel rod. A great buy for the price!

I just got back from the Florida Keys... Took this rod
along in my suitcase.. Used it for 3 days pier fishing
and caught fish all day long.... It performed
great....
