Product Description

There has been a lack of solutions for keeping gear attached to you. Lanyards get tangled and hang out to be snagged. Diving retractors are generally too heavy, bulky and expensive for light gear.

I bought this for my daughter who attends college. This year she lost two cell phones while traveling across the campus. So far so good, she finds it easy to use and the cable is strong enough to carry her phone. She attaches it either to her jeans or the inside of her purse. This way even if it becomes dislodged from a pocket or her purse its still attached to her person.

I like to have my cell phone in a horizontal belt clipped leather case. But more than once, I have gotten out of my car and the act of getting out of the care has dislodged the case without my knowledge. I now clip this gear retractor to my belt loop and the other end to the case. This prevents the cell phone from dropping if it is dislodged. Very inexpensive cell phone insurance.

I replaced the little belt loop clip and also the ring that connects to your card holder. With those adjustments, it is five star for swiping your corporate card to get in restricted access doors, etc. Light camping use also would be five stars. The heart of the unit is the spring loaded retractable wire thingy. Completely adequate for years of service as opposed to those chinsy plastic things they give you for free at the office (that never last..).

I work in a laboratory supporting technicians, engineers and test equipment. The standard plastic badge retractors were not made for my frequency of use nor the abuse I put them through. I have been using the Gear Retractor for about a month now and I haven't had any issues with its performance. It's robust design and materials make it an excellent choice for those who are fed up with having to replace a badge retractor every few weeks...

This is advertised as a flashlight or other tool clip, but I use it for my home and work keys. I've tried other retractable keychains, but they can't handle the weight,are flimsy, or just plain stop working. I have separate key rings and it is simple to remove one and clip in another. The plastic coated steel line is long and strong. Definitely a great value!
